At 14:28:04 May 12th, 2008, Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province, People’s Republic of China, was hit by a magnitude 8.0 earthquake. Until May 20th, 39577 perished, 236359 injured, and 60026 rescued from debriefs. It is estimated that the total death toll will exceed 50000….

In the near future, an unknown number of aftershocks would hit, and more people would be hurt. This disaster has not ended yet.

China Mourns

The Chinese government decided that from May 19th to May 21st the whole country shall mourn the victims of the earthquake. Flags across the entire country were lowered to their half-mask, entertainment was seized, and memorials are established at government offices. Starting from 14:28 May 19th, every Chinese citizen stood in silence for three minutes. Air raid sirens, cars, trains, and ship horns wailed in grief.After the silent tribute on the Tiananmen Square ended, thousands stayed standing still. With tears in their eyes, they exclaim: Go China!

5月21日，戛纳时间中午12：20—13：20，章子怡在戛纳举行了地震灾害救助筹款会，章子怡表示，此番来到戛纳，她的所有的精力都放在这次救助筹款的事情上，为此她取消了所有在戛纳的活动，包括官方邀请的红地毯。

 在她现场的发言中，章子怡几次哽咽。章子怡当天的活动名为：“章子怡地震灾害救助筹款会”，主要环节是播放VEDIO，以及动情地向来到现场的嘉宾和海内外的记者们讲述了两个发生在地震灾区的感人故事。对于如此设置，章子怡称筹办此次活动的时间非常仓促，所以她希望通过这次的募捐活动，告诉世界上人，在中国发生了什么，也希望通过今天的活动，通过自己讲述的故事，可以让人们将这样的故事讲述给更多的人知道，通过每个人的力量，召集更多的人加入到帮助自己的祖国，帮助抗震救灾的队伍中间来。

   章子怡在采访中也一直强调，今天的活动只是一个开始，她会尽心地把这件事情一直持续做下去，无论有多少困难和艰辛，自己都不会放弃。
